INAE forum on infrastructure undertook the study on housing with an objective to create a ‘white paper’ to provide a set of needed actions related to policy initiatives, engineering R&D, and extension.

The forum on civil infrastructure which is undertaking this study was constituted as follow up activity of the INAE Vision 2037 Document, wherein the subject areas such as engineering education, energy, infrastructure, among others, have been brought into focus.

The subject areas of infrastructure include traffic & transportation, housing, different aspects of water, and energy, as the main verticals. The infrastructure sector is a key driver for the Indian economy. The sector is highly responsible for propelling India’s overall development and enjoys intense focus from the Government for initiating policies that would ensure the time-bound creation of a world-class infrastructure in the country.

Experts and stakeholders from various areas present in the meeting held in the Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council, New Delhi, discussed a further course of action. It was decided to address the demand for housing rather than only the shortages and, in doing so, take into account the urban as well as the rural scenario.

It is envisaged that the report will address the need for greater uniformity of approach and specifications, maybe even state-wise, to facilitate quick and easy adoption of the shortlisted technologies. The next meeting of the forum will be held in March 2020 (tentatively).
