11,527 Indians under surveillance for coronavirus, Health Secy reviews Covid-19 preparedness

New Delhi: Health Secretary Preeti Sudan chaired a meeting yesterday with the senior officials of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare to review the actions and preparedness for prevention and management of Novel Coronavirus,now dubbed Covid-19.

The Secretary highlighted that while the situation is under control presently, States & UTs shall remain alert and vigilant on a continued basis. The community level awareness activities regarding the updated advisories, guidelines, protocols etc. need to be enhanced by the States, she noted.

At present, the screening of passengers is on in all 21 airports, 12 major seaports, and border crossings. In all, 2,148 flights and 2,32,613 passengers were screened so far. As of now, 1,632 samples have been tested of which 3 samples from Kerala had earlier tested positive. All Indian evacuees from Wuhan have tested negative for Covid-19 (formerly nCoV). 11,527 persons are presently under community surveillance in 34 States & UTs.
