Animation & gaming fest IndiaJoy will be flagged off by Telangana IT Minister in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The four-day IndiaJoy 2019 conclave, a festival focused on gaming, animation, VFX media and entertainment, will be held at HICC Hyderabad from 20-23 November. This is the 2nd edition of IndiaJoy, which has received support from the Telangana Government and will be inaugurated by Telangana IT Minister KT Ramarao. The festival is expected to see 10,000 visitors, including over 400 international delegates from more than 50 countries. 250 sessions will be hosted across 4 days, as well as a large esports arena with 5 game stages at the India Game Developer Conference (IGDC).

The Indian gaming industry has seen a surge of interest in the past few years. The recently concluded OPPO PUBG Mobile India Tour saw a Jaipur team ‘Revenge eSports’ walk away with a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh. To inspire the youth, even the Indian Air Force launched ‘Indian Air Force: A Cut Above’, a mobile game that has been downloaded more than 2.2 million times since June this year.

Speaking about the growth of the AVCG (Animation, VFX, Comic, Gaming ) industry in Telangana, KT Ramarao said, “While Telangana has been a leader in the area of IT/ITeS, a push to the Animation, VFX, Gaming & Comics industry supported by a futuristic policy will ensure exponential growth of this industry and attract investments from related stakeholders into Telangana, to establish the state as a truly creative industry hub.”

The Principal Secretary of Telangana Government, Jayesh Ranjan, added, “The Government of Telangana is committed to make this a global scale platform. We are pleased to note that in its second year itself, the event is becoming bigger, with global participation from investors, publishers and gamers.”

Rajiv Chilaka, founder & CEO of Green Gold Animations of Chhota Bheem fame, said, “The Indian animation industry is at a very interesting and crucial juncture. In the last couple of decades, India has proven its calibre in creating shows and IPs which are forces to reckon with globally. Of course, the journey has just begun for all of us.”

The festival will see speakers and panelists from Viacom18, Sony Pictures Networks, Discovery Communications, Shemaroo, Reliance Big Animation and others in the media industry. The OTT Pulse event on 20 November will also host panelists from OTT platforms including Amazon Prime Video and Viu.
